Just back in town from a quick getaway to the East Coast – we had a great shoot with Anna Bergman, went to some inspiring museums, ate great food and got to visit with firends. Along with some fun snaps from our trip I’m including some advice for anyone heading out that way.

Restaurants :

Westville in Manhattan’s West Village serves affordable, fantastic food in a cozy, hidden little spot. Try a selection of their “market sides” 4 for $13 – we had sweet potato fries, brusel sprouts in a honey dijon sauce, braised kale, and roasted beats with goat cheese. Pair it with a Malbec and you’ve got your own slice of foodie heaven!

Cafe Moto in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn is a super hidden spot (no sign out front, just the address) tucked under the J train. It was established in 1938 and still has that historic feel to it (complete with missing heat – wear something warm if dining in fall or winter). We sampled the “fonduta” and steamed mussels (both great) but the real winner of the night was the date cake – don’t leave without trying it!

Old Inn on the Green in the village of New Marlborough (up in the Berkshires of Massachusetts). If you’re in the area (likely for the amazing foliage in fall) this is a dining experience not to miss. This is your splurge night – and well worth it! We had the risotto and the sword fish (amongst a host of other small bites the chef sent out to our table) and it was all phenomenal!

Museums :

Be sure not to miss MASS MoCA if you are up in the Berkshires. It’s a beautiful drive from Great Barrington up to North Adams and the museum is an amazing space. One of the current installation exhibits, by Jenny Holzer, was our favorite.

If sticking to Manhattan I would highly recommend a trip to MoMA. There’s an interesting exhibit on the history of the photographic printing process, plus a sculpture exhibit of Picasso’s work and a newly opening exhibit of Joan Miro’s paintings.

Specialty Spots :

The Boom Boom Beauty Bar for all your waxing, beauty and pampering needs. Joe for coffee even Seattleites will approve of, and Baby Cakes for vegan cupcakes.

OK – and now for some photos!
